Our experienced and knowledgeable internal audit team support over 400 town and parish councils in 19 counties across the country, including London’s only parish council.
In 2022, in collaboration with other sector specialists we helped establish the Internal Audit Forum, which is hailed by NALC as ‘a pivotal partner in promoting the growth, development and understanding of internal audits to local councils’.
Our friendly and supportive team work with a range of councils from those exempt from an external audit to larger councils with multi-million pound budgets.
The internal audit includes detailed testing and reviews of systems, policies and procedures, alongside scrutiny of financial accounts. The internal audit concludes with a comprehensive report that includes an inherent risk assessment, an action plan identifying improvement areas and guidance to support the accurate completion of the Annual Governance and Accountability Return (AGAR) and other supporting documentation for submission to the external auditor.
Visits typically occur twice per financial year, although support and advice from your assigned internal auditor is available throughout the year.
